Events Calendar: September Events Paused Until Future Notice
We are rescheduling our virtual PIN meetings but still need to put a few things in place before we can do this. School Portraits will also be offered but at a yet to be determined date. (Gee thanks, Covid!)
Thank you for your patience.
October is Primary Conference Month! Please keep an eye out for a Conference Sign-Up sheet coming to your email early next week.
What’s Happening!
Our younger friends have been at home this week. We look forward to their return on Monday! (Megan’s class returns on Thursday).
Lower El
Several students are busy discussing the signs of early Autumn. One student says "Can I draw a picture of the images I saw during my outdoor hike over the weekend? Another student says " I have so many leaves in my backyard." Three other students begin looking for geometric solids in their environments. One student shows a baseball and says "I found a sphere !" Another student says "I am eating a peach, that peach is a sphere!" Two students begin to read poetry aloud while the other students begin a lovely morning workcycle.
Upper El
Students who have globes grab them and observe the tilt and they rotate them. Everyone is asked, "What are the effects of the Sun's direct light on Earth's axis?" Students suggest, 'If it was hot all year round, people would be annoyed' and 'The earth needs to rest and the leaves need to change' and the earth moves and that's why we have seasons'. After a collaboration of hypothesis, a child directs the light on a globe as it rotates on its axis. Students work together and are drawing an impressionistic chart, revealing the axis of the Earth and the season the northern hemisphere of Earth is experiencing as it orbits around the sun. Students listen to a story about the reason for the seasons. They are now transitioning and are now using modeling clay and creating flower pots or vases, while others choose to build sculptures. "I'm going to make our school mascot--a bee!", one student enthusiastically exclaims. It's a joy to see all their imaginative minds at work!
Middle School
A student shares an event from home that incites the students to eagerly discuss pet fish. Students research and discuss glow-in-the-dark fish. "How do they modify them to make them glow?" one friend asks, and another answers, "They inject them with jellyfish DNA!" The students research genetically modified animals, and receive an introductory lesson on DNA and proteins.
