Central Montessori School:  Campus Safety First

Central’s Safety First Policies are in place and staff receives ongoing security training. Here is a bit of information about this important topic.

Central has crafted an excellent safety training program for our staff.  We continue to revise and update our training and policies.  We are in compliance with all required city and DSS regulations. We have crafted our staff training along the lines of recommendations and guidelines provided by HomeLand Security.  In some incidents, we exceed them.  Please schedule an appointment with the director to hear more about safety and Central.

Staff receives training in these areas

  1. Safety tour of campuses
  2. Safety and emergency lexicon
  3. Posted safety and emergency procedures and maps
  4. Monitoring of children at all times: inside/outside/go-trips
  5. Monitoring of all perimeters
  6. Management of dangerous persons:  known or unknown
  7. Emergency, 1st aid, AED training
  8. Emergency/safety equipment/items in classrooms
  9. Emergency communication systems
  10. Monthly and annual drills
  11. How to monitor the emotional well-being of children and any indications of weapons on campus.
Parents can help too.
  • Be certain guns are unloaded and that children do not have access to weapons
  • Alert Central if you are aware that a child is under a heavy burden of stress or become aware of concerning social media postings
  • Be watchful and alert Central if you observe the activity around the school that seems unusual or contact the police
  • Contact elected government officials and demand that they manage this crisis.  Remember, we do not have to have all the answers, but each of us can tell those in elected positions that they must help us create a society in which the murder of our children is not the norm.
Special Note
It is disingenuous for politicians and lawmakers to claim that teachers and staff are the answer to school shootings. They are negating their own responsibilities and asking school staff to assume them.
Presidents, surrounded by highly trained agents, with weapons, who are prepared to use them, have been murdered in secure/monitored areas.  People are murdered on military bases surrounded by trained soldiers with access to weapons and police have been murdered within their own stations.  A highly decorated sniper was murdered surrounded by individuals with loaded guns.
We can be part of the solution but we need every member of our communities and nation to help us. I encourage our staff and parents to contact your legislators and share their views on this critical issue.
If you will take the time to contact your elected official, Central will award you a v hour to help compensate you for your time and commitment to helping us keep our children safe.  Just make note of Central Parents Against School Violence in your Track It Forward posting.
