Our school is located in a beautiful urban setting.

Central Montessori School proudly upholds a traditional Montessori program and stands as the sole urban Montessori school in Richmond.
At Central, our comprehensive academic program operates year-round, running from 8 AM to 5 PM, with the added convenience of early drop-off and late pick-up options.
Established in November 2007 with a single classroom, Central has evolved into a dynamic institution encompassing six distinct developmental stages: infant, toddler, primary, lower elementary, upper elementary, and middle school. With a growth to 9 classrooms and a student body of 150 children, our reach and impact continue to expand.
Central actively collaborates with our dedicated parent association to offer a variety of family-friendly events throughout the year, fostering a strong sense of community. Furthermore, our commitment extends to supporting other programs through the involvement of our parent volunteers.
Dedicated to Dr. Maria Montessori's philosophy, methodology, and teachings, Central Montessori School offers children aged 3 months to 12 years an alternative education experience that's firmly rooted in Montessori principles.

Environmental Practices

Central Montessori School is dedicated to fostering exemplary environmental practices. Our students possess a deep familiarity with and comfort in the natural world, actively engaging with it. Through year-round explorations, averaging an hour per day, they traverse playgrounds, local parks, and the school campus.
Our unwavering commitment lies in upholding a Zero Waste ethos, evidenced by our consistent recycling and composting initiatives. Efforts to preserve a litter-free environment around our campus are diligently undertaken by our students. Our advocacy for reusable containers is resolute, as we endeavor to minimize the influx of plastic within our school premises.
Central Montessori's parents and students collaborate in cultivating, nurturing, and harvesting a variety of fruits and vegetables. This endeavor beautifully complements our farm shares and the Daily Soup program, enriching the holistic educational experience we offer.

Mission Statement

Our mission centers around creating an authentically Montessori School community characterized by respect and cultural diversity. We are dedicated to catering to the requirements of working families by offering a continuous day of Montessori activities, commencing early in the morning and extending into the evening.
Central Montessori School is committed to further cultivating supportive bonds with the neighboring communities and child advocacy groups situated within the expansive Greater Richmond Area.

Philosophy

Central Montessori School holds the belief that a child's innate drive to learn is incredibly powerful, propelling them to a constant state of learning. No external force has the capability to prevent a child from engaging in this fundamental endeavor. While various circumstances, life experiences, and educational institutions can sometimes obstruct a child's capacity to reach their utmost learning potential, Central Montessori School has meticulously created an environment devoid of obstacles. This environment serves to eliminate anything that might impede, discourage, or diminish a child's natural inclination and eagerness to learn.
Education is not something which the teacher does. It is a natural process which develops spontaneously” – Maria Montessori
