Central’s Health First Policy

Disease and Illness Reduction and Prevention Measures for Home and School

We ask that you help us keep our children (and you) as healthy as possible by helping your child practice good  personal health and environmental hygiene at home.  We are doing the same at school.

Please send your child to school healthy and well rested; ready to fully participate in a full day at school, including outdoor playtime.

If your child does become ill, please allow them to stay home, rest and recuperate until they are symptom free for 24 hours without medications.

There are two basic ways that disease can be transmitted: Air and surfaces

Personal hygiene

Children should be taught and each person should

  1. Resist the temptation to touch their faces (or the faces of others)
  2. Catch a cough or sneeze in the fold of their arm
  3. Use a tissue
  4. Not casually touch surfaces such as table tops, shelves, door handles, backs of chairs
  5. Wash hands correctly and frequently
    1. before eating
    2. after touching faces
    3. after blowing noses
    4. upon arrival
    5. before 2nd playtime/dismissal
    6. after using the bathroom/diapering

Environmental hygiene

Children, and all persons, should

  1. Use place-mats (or use their lunchboxes as place-mats at school) while eating
  2. Not touch food belonging to others or share food with others
  3. Clean their spaces before and after eating snack or lunch

Teachers and assistants

  1. Follow all guidelines listed above
  2. Clean all surfaces a minimum of twice a day (three times daily if flu is present)
  3. Follow 3 sink disinfecting procedures
  4. Clean after children if the children cannot manage
  5. Help children keep noses clean: wash hands afterwards
  6. Keep cleaning supplies correctly labeled, locked and out of children’s reach
  7. Keep cleaning supplies ordered
  8. Prepare and maintain children’s cleaning supplies so they can be used by children
  9. Do not prepare Daily Soup when stomach Illness or flu are present

As always, please feel free to speak to me about this policy or any other policy.  We are always open to feedback and credit our communicative parents with helping us craft the quality programming that Central offers.

Health and Happiness,
Anita
