Central’s Health First Information
Guidelines for illness reports between home and school
It is very important that your child be in good health and is able to fully participate in a full day at school, including outdoor play. Young children, unlike adults, cannot manage symptoms of illness because they often cannot take over the counter medications and cannot always manage personal hygiene challenges (runny nose etc).
If a child seems unwell, we respectfully ask that the parents take their child to the pediatrician in order to receive a diagnosis. We ask our parents to notify us, through email, each time a child has a Dr. diagnosed contagious illness. We report only Dr. confirmed/diagnoses illnesses to our community.
Emailing this information to us will help us prevent any possible oversight or failure-to-report and to better track the illnesses that have the potential to impact the well-being of our community. It also helps Central determine if additional cleaning/training measures are needed.
We treat all reported information confidentially and consider a report of illness at one campus to possibly impact our entire community.
Additional information about the ways we can reduce or prevent illness and disease can be found in the parent section of our website.
Special Note: Our reporting to our community about illnesses is only as good as the reports we receive from parents. You may become aware of other parents mentioning their child’s illnesses-through social media, or during informal discussions during social events. It often happens that other parents know about illnesses in the community that Central has not been made aware of because the parents of a sick child may not yet have made a report to Central.
Once Central has received a report of a communicable disease, it will alert the community through email within 24 hours.
If a report has been made to parents about an illness, assume that more than one case of any given illness may be in our community and stay vigilant for a time.
Always assume that a reported illness may impact any or all members of our community and practice good health hygiene in your home as we do the same at school.
If additional reports are made of the same illness to Central, they will be documented on a form located in the front office of the mail building. Please contact Central if you would like us to send this information to you.

- Please remember, that a child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. There are several illnesses that are contagious that may not be accompanied by a fever: Diarrhea, vomiting, conjunctivitis, and others. In these cases, children should be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school. Your pediatrician can provide guidelines for exclusion as well. Please bring this note in with you or have your pediatrician's office fax or email it to Central. Please follow this link to VDH for additional information about exclusion.
